At Kobudo Studio, our handcrafted nunchaku are built strictly to the traditional tapered octagon (hakkakukei) profile. The distinct faceted edges provide immediate tactile feedback in your palm, ensuring your strikes and catches index cleanly without slipping in high-speed transitions.
Traditional Craft with a Modern Twist
We blend authentic Okinawan proportions with hand-selected exotic and domestic hardwoods, giving each pair structural durability and unmistakable personal flair:
- Select Hardwood Pairings: Crafted from resilient, high-density woods such as African Padauk, Rock Maple, and other dense species chosen for balanced swing momentum and impact resistance.
- Contrasting Wood Joinery: Accented with precision-set hardwood dowel pins (such as deep Mahogany), ensuring internal anchoring that is as visually striking as it is mechanically secure.
- Silky, Natural Feel: Hand-finished to a smooth, organic grip that breathes during training and develops a rich personal patina over time.
- Solid vs. Laminated: Both are very strong, but laminated woods are even stronger as the grain is faced in a manner to add strength. The visual appeal of the various hardwoods is also particularly striking.
Adjustable, Replaceable Paracord Rigging
Our nunchaku are tied using high-tensile paracord, rigged so that you can easily adjust the rope span to your exact hand width or change out cords whenever you want a fresh color.
